I was lucky to have a 6 months grant in SL, read more here, to investigate so terms within storytelling.
Here follows the project description:
This is a project that through various aesthetic approaches wants to look at concepts within narrative expression.
Brief information about the project
What: Virtual installations with a focus on interaction and which discusses and research narrative terms.
Period: Spring 2013
Participants: Mimesis Monday / Heidi Dahlsveen (storyteller and curator)
Various invited virtual artists (none currently requested)
Transit’t is a project that wants to investigate some concepts in storytelling. These terms are not much discussed, yet central in a narrative expression.
Transit’t = transport of persons or goods from one country to another through a third.
It’s the third that here is interesting, yet is where you are coming from and where you are arriving necessary for Transit’t to exist. Transit’t is seen here as a linguistic figure – a metaphor for oral storytelling and a specific place. A transit area means being in motion, directions, random encounters, transitions, fleeting and ephemeral – being a nomad.
Purposes of this project are:
1 To investigate the key concepts in oral storytelling
2 To create installations that are narrative and that makes use of interaction
3 To provide greater focus on animations and poses in a virtual experience
The project is conducted through four phases, where the first three phases takes place in the virtual world and the 4th phase are summarized in a narrative installation at Oslo and Akershus University College of applied sciences where I work.
It is the first 3 phases that I apply for in LEA . The first three phases are corresponding to three divided periods, where each period have one of the topics explored: Breathe, silence and personality. Here several artists will be invited to create installations based on a concept and a number of animations I have made for this term. The artists are free to interpret / create based on the subject and the movements they get. When installations are open to the public, I will arrange short storytelling performances, based on the same topics that will be told in the installations. The storytelling will be «invoice». Here the visitors will be moving related to narrative and installation.
The entire project will continuously be documented through machinima, photos and log and blog. The findings, ideas created along the way is used in an installation that takes place in the physical world.
